Oh yes, we are back with the pride and joy of Caribbean calypso music. DJ Jo Jo Lo delivered classic Calypso heat from NYC to the global diaspora, adding a touch of Brooklyn brilliance to Old School Saturday.  Mr. Desmond initially planned for a 12-to-4 session, but by 1:30 PM, Jo Jo had already provided us with an abundance of soul-satisfying classics.

We told you we would be back, and we did it with class. This cultural link-up, powered by MrDesmond.net, was a tribute to storytelling in rhythm. Calypso resonated loudly and proudly from BKNYC to backyard speakers worldwide. Big up MrDesmond.net for the hookup—and to everyone who tuned in, we hope you vibed as hard as we did.

This session was a musical love letter to the ‘Old Heads’ and the new generation discovering the power of Caribbean storytelling. Calypso lives. OSS delivers. And Sokah2Soca celebrates. ?????

Let us spread awareness of the Caribbean diaspora's culture.
Our goal is to promote Caribbean culture, musicians, and music producers. We are able to honor and promote the rich sounds and tales of the Caribbean thanks to your support. Together, we can ensure that this rich cultural legacy continues to reach a wider audience and foster creativity and connections. While you should always buy music for sale, you should avoid sharing promotional music because it denies songwriters, producers, and artists important revenue.  Please be aware that all of our posts are available online via social media platforms like FacebookYouTubeInstagramSpotify, and SoundCloud. We explained in our previous post on R&B Soul why we briefly strayed from Soca and Calypso, but don't worry, we'll be returning to Soca and Calypso soon. This episode is the second hour of programming on Saturday that went into some of the old-school Caribbean reggae that ruled Trinidad and Tobago during the seventies. This installment is part of the OSS (Old School Saturdays—De OSS) programming.

As you can tell, at Sokah2Soca, we don’t just archive history—we revive it. This segment shines a spotlight on the early reggae anthems that ruled the party scenes and daily life across the Caribbean in the 1970s. Before the bashment and riddim revolution, roots reggae laid the foundation with soul, struggle, and irie vibes.

Mr. Desmond digs into the crates for the sounds that shaped generations—music that blasted from backyard speakers, corner shops, and dancehalls alike. Consider Gregory Isaacs, Dennis Brown, and many more surprises that you must listen to to understand why this post is so relevant. These weren’t just songs. They were lifelines.

So tune in, rewind with pride, and let the skank take you home. Old School Reggae Replay is on air to play anytime, anywhere and on demand—and it’s nothing but pure foundational music.

At Sokah2Soca, we celebrate the full rhythm of Caribbean life—and that includes the sounds that shaped Trinidad's airwaves back in the day. Long before streaming, Old School American soul, funk, and R&B didn’t just play in the background—they were etched in our memories, parties, lime-outs, and Saturday morning routines.

Now that we gave you the background information for this post, let's get into our latest "Wheel and Come Again Radio Rebroadcast." The Old School Saturdays (De OSS) On ilannnet.com/MrDesmond, Saturday was a fantastic day! Mr. Desmond unlocked the musical vault, unleashing a journey filled with groove, grit, and glorious throwbacks. We caught the moment, bottled the vibe, and now it’s on replay—ready for your listening pleasure.

The show kicked off with a bang:
  • George Benson’s sophisticated swagger on “On Broadway”
  • War’s deep, gritty soul in “The World Is a Ghetto”
  • MIllie Jackson commands attention with her song "Feel Like Making Love."
  • And the unforgettable storytelling of “Tonight Is the Night” by Millie herself
? As the tagline goes, “Good Morning Neba!” And yes—you are welcome.

"De OSS" isn’t just a rebroadcast. It is a revival, a resurrection of rhythm and nostalgia that fills the air like a sweet vintage perfume. So pour your favorite wine, sink into your Saturday soul, and let these songs dust off the memories you didn’t even know you missed. We'll hush now... ? Click play, sip slow, and enjoy the rewind.

Finally, while we continue to proudly play soca, steelband, bouyon, and kompa, we took this moment to spin the tracks that once shared space on our stereos. Some of the older heads still have these vinyl records at home! This is the music that ruled the airwaves and still echoes in the soul. It’s not a detour—it’s part of the journey!

At Sokah2Soca, we’re always seeking the next wave—the unexpected rhythm, the voice that cuts through the noise, the kind of cultural crossover that feels like home in a new accent. Today, we take that leap across the Atlantic into "The Pond," where the Union Jack flies but the Caribbean pulse beats loud and proud.

We’re shining a spotlight on DJ NickyNu, whose short mixtape brings pure originality and UK-Caribbean flair. This isn’t a rehash or a sample loop—it’s a full-on vibe, crafted by Nicky himself, and it hits with that rare freshness we crave.

For years, we've wanted to connect with the UK Soca scene—the vibrant community tuned in via Soca News and moving to a sound that’s equal parts nostalgia and next-gen energy. Therefore, to our extended Soca family across the ocean, we acknowledge your presence, celebrate your contributions, and share in the vibe with you—thanks to DJ NickyNu’s sonic love letter.

So plug in, turn up the volume, and catch the bounce. Sokah2Soca is dialed in, globally focused, and locally rooted. ??????
