Terri Lyons from Trinidad and Tobago has emerged as the Queen of Queens for Carnival 2024 on the vibrant island of Montserrat! Her remarkable talent and captivating performances have solidified her legacy in the world of calypso music. This amazing feat, winning the title for the third consecutive year and reaching the pinnacle in any field of endeavor, is an impressive achievement. Terri's talent has taken her to the top, and for that we are proud and thankful for all her achievements.

Terri first claimed the prestigious title in December 2022 with her powerful renditions of "Obeah" and "Meghan My Dear." Terri's success didn't end there; in December 2023, she returned to defend her title with dynamic performances of "House Cleaning" and "Calypso," demonstrating her talent as a singer and her command of stage performances.

Terri once again dominated the stage this year, earning an impressive score of 1,268 points with her latest hits, "Black and Ugly" and "Ask Yuh Man." Those who have seen Terri perform know and understand that she always delivers a top-notch performance on stage. Once again, she captivated the audience and judges with her skill and stage presence to win the first prize of $5,000 USD, along with the title of Queen, the coveted crown, and multiple trophies.

Terri's achievements are a testament to her hard work and passion for the genre. Terri has emerged as a role model for aspiring calypsonians, proving that talent and perseverance can lead to greatness. Her victory sets a high standard for the upcoming Carnival season and beyond, as she continues to build her legacy and inspire a new generation of calypso artists.

Congratulations to Terri Lyons on this incredible milestone and for representing Trinidad and Tobago so admirably. Now it is on to the Trinidad and Tobago Carnival, and the task at hand is to retake the title won by Machel Montano earlier this year. Here's to many more years of electrifying performances and unforgettable music.

What songs stayed with you this year? From groovy Soca beats to power-packed anthems, some tracks had us dancing at our desks and driving home a little too fast when the bouyon and dennery rhythms demanded it. Those vibes made me eager to hit the gym or head home!

Some DJs wondered if any good music was on the way, but as December hit—BAM!—a flood of tunes came through like a tsunami. Artists like Mical Teja, Voice the Artiste, and Bunji Garlin dropped fresh tracks for 2025, and the youth in the industry are taking Soca to new heights with bold creativity and vocals.

2024 delivered everything from playful hits like Trinidad Killa's "Terrance" to island flavors like Quan, Trilla G & Littleboy's "Hope You Find Someone Else," and dynamic collaborations like "Try Me" by Trilla G, Nailah Blackman, and others. Let’s not forget viral hits like Yung Brudda’s “The Greatest Bend Ova,” Kes's Cocotea, and lyrical gems like Mical Teja’s “Energy.”

We now have an abundance of music, re-fixes, and DJ mixes to choose from. Last week, I shared my personal favorites on Soka2Soca, so check that out if you missed it! Brace yourself for this curated mix of 2025 hits—a vibrant blend from across the Caribbean.

Special Thanks:
To my DJ family at Carbon Media Group—Caribbean DJs and Producers—thank you for your kindness, support, and for keeping me in the loop with the latest music and mixes. Your camaraderie is inspiring.

To Island Vybe Radio Fans
I can’t believe it’s been a year! This station has become my second home, where I combine my love for music with my passion for podcasts like Table Talk. Meeting talented DJs who are so dedicated to their craft has been a privilege. Much love to the IV Board for continued success in 2025.

To my clients: You mean the world to me! Whether you’ve been with me for seven years or joined recently, I’m honored to be your voice for DJ mixes, ringtones, commercials, and more. Thank you for your trust!

To my family and friends: Thank you for supporting my crazy ideas and letting me be Nikki G.

And to anyone reading this—thank you for indulging my little rant. Although I had a lot to say, it's best to keep it brief and concise. Here’s to a joyful and prosperous 2025!

Thank you to Sokah2Soca for giving me space to feature my work, voice, clients, and DJs. The work you do does not go unnoticed; you are a replica of the energizer bunny with a Caribbean twist. Thanks for putting all our ideas to pen, aka the World Wide Web, and making them come alive... Keep up the fantastic work! #alleyesonyou!

With love,
The Voice: Nikki G.

Prepare to groove to Patrice Roberts' latest release, "Leh We Play!" This track is a masterclass in Soca, showcasing the incredible talents of everyone involved in its creation. Written by the gifted Jason "Shaft" Bishop, produced by the dynamic duo Carel Taylor & LunaTix Production, and mixed and mastered by Barbados' very own Andrew Denny, this song is a true Caribbean gem.

"Leh We Play" elevates Patrice Roberts' artistry to unprecedented levels. Is she getting better, or has she simply mastered this music genre? Patrice's captivating presence, unwavering confidence, and impeccable control demonstrate her exceptional performance. Her vocals, recorded and produced in Trinidad by David "MillBeatz" Millien at MillBeatz Entertainment Studio, are nothing short of sensational.

From the moment the beat drops, "Leh We Play" grabs you with its infectious energy and doesn't let go. Perfectly crafted upbeat rhythm and excellent lyrical content keep you moving. Playing this track on repeat is a must, and it's no surprise that it's already creating a buzz as a strong contender for Road March honors.
