Bouyon music, originating from Dominica in the 1980s, is an exhilarating fusion of various Caribbean genres. It blends the infectious rhythms of Soca, the vibrant energy of Calypso, the cadence of traditional folk music, and a sprinkle of Reggae vibes. Bouyon, renowned for its high-tempo beats and irresistible grooves, aims to inspire everyone to dance. Bouyon music, whether played at a festival or a street party, celebrates life and culture with a pulsating beat that keeps the energy alive.

Nailah Blackman's talent and ability to capture exceptional moments continue to impress. In this case, she has gone back to the future from a cultural point of view. This is not a Soca track, but rather a track reminiscent of her ancestral homeland, featuring Afrobeat music specifically for her fans. Nailah has once again shown her incredible versatility as an artist with her latest release, "Miss Continental," in collaboration with DJ Obi. Fresh from her inspiring trip to Nigeria, Nailah has infused this Afrobeat track with her signature style, creating a fusion that celebrates both African and Caribbean musical traditions.
The music creation is on point! Produced by Joshua Chuks Osajiokwoeh (Jaypizzle) and written by Mark Abraham Owoicho (Mark Owi), Okpe Luke Ogabor, Anson Soverall (Anson Pro), and Nailah herself, "Miss Continental" is a vibrant celebration of cultural exchange and musical evolution. The song’s infectious rhythms and catchy hooks are sure to resonate with fans across the globe, showcasing Nailah's talent for blending genres.
Her grandfather, Lord Shorty (Ras Shorty I), the creator of Soca, was the inspiration that led Nailah to the world of Soca music; it is indeed a part of a family tradition. However, Nailah's creative spirit has led her on a global musical journey. While Nailah’s heart remains deeply rooted in soca music, her exploration of afrobeats highlights her growth and adaptability as an international artist. "Miss Continental" is more than just a song; it's a testament to her commitment to exploring new sounds and pushing musical boundaries.
Growth is always the key to success in the competitive world of music. As she continues to evolve and experiment with different genres, Nailah Blackman proves that music truly knows no borders. Dive into "Miss Continental" and experience the exciting vibe that Afrobeats bring with a tinge of Soca fusion, brought to life by one of the Caribbean’s brightest stars.

Carnival 2025 is on the horizon, and we all plan to go out and have a nice time. Today, we present new music from the King of Soca, Machel Montano. He is back and, some may say, better than ever with his new music release titled, "Nice Time". Fans of Machel will just be happy to hear new music from this talented son of Trinidad & Tobago. The message for this one will be well received because Carnival is all about having a 'nice time'.
This track, produced by Fryktion and featured on the "Hard Jam Riddim" album, has a familiar feel for this artist. This is a very relaxed and laid-back vibe but a needed addition to Trinidad and Tobago's Carnival 2025.
After taking a year off for university studies, Machel's return to the Soca scene this early in the season is a welcomed surprise. "Nice Time" brings/delivers a relaxed feeling and a comfort level that Machel always brings for his fans.
Personally, I feel the same about this song as I do for "Thousand" by Bunji Garlin. Although it is a new music release, it doesn't leave a lasting impression. It does make me feel good but, at the same time, I can't get excited enough to call anyone and tell them, "Hey you, listen to this new song from Machel, it is the bomb!"
After all is said and done, fans are just excited to hear Machel's voice on new music for an upcoming carnival. We believe that people will like the song, but it really does not pack a punch. It is a good song, just not an exciting song to 'call home about'.
