Today, on WACK radio 90.1 FM, the Kenny Phillips show showcased songs from a bygone era remade with a modern spin. Why did we do this? Simply put, many listeners are unaware that some of these songs are remakes. Today, we showcase a song from Carl and Carol Jacobs' original show, "Fix It Up." The remake by GBM Nutron and Farmer Nappy, "In the Center," used the music and melody but with different lyrics. We will showcase the songs, but first, let's discuss why a remake is beneficial.

If you go online, one can find numerous articles about the virtues of remaking a song. Having said that, we outline the following factors that contribute to the success of certain remakes:
  1. Remaking a song from the past brings a fresh vibe to timeless classics, blending nostalgia with modern creativity.
  2. It's like breathing new life into a melody that shaped our memories, offering a new generation the chance to connect with it.
  3. These revivals can showcase the evolution of musical styles and production techniques, creating a bridge between eras.
  4. Plus, they often spark renewed interest in the original artists and their work, celebrating their enduring influence.
Kenny refers to the discussion as an "examination of the remakes," delving into the pros and cons that come with these changes. Not everyone asked for permission to remake the song or even used the melodies associated with the music. Today, everything ends up in court, but some people don't have the money to pursue the perpetrators or believe suing isn't worth it because there's no financial gain and it could cost them money, defeating the goal of the lawsuit.

Today, this post features a very popular and musically excellent song by Carl and Carol Jacob titled "Fix It Up." This song continues to be a popular choice for parties. Do you believe that someone could perform 'Fix it Up' to a higher standard? "Fix it Up" is a timeless song. Consequently, GBM Nutron and Farmer Nappy penned new lyrics and utilized the melody/music of "Fix It Up" to craft a new song, "In the Center." People loved "In the Center," but trust me, "Fix it Up" will undoubtedly be the song that lives on forever.

Both songs share the same musical elements, but "In the Center" has a contemporary vibe that may appeal to younger listeners, while purists will always favor "Fix It Up." It is laudable that GBM Nutron and Farmer Nappy sampled "Fix It Up," using the melody to create an excellent song. Kudos to the artists for celebrating the work of Carl and Carol Jacobs.

What distinguishes the two productions? Obviously, the artists singing are different, but more importantly, the eras are decades apart. Consider this: the production styles and techniques from 1987's "Fit it Up" to 2023's "In the Center" are significantly different. Some would say that music from past decades has a better sound than today's new computer electronic sound. Some may prefer the sound of live brass over computer-generated brass. Finally, the lyrics are different. "In the Center" caters to the youth and the changes in society that allow for more brazen discourse. "Fix it Up" is just pure niceness; the music and lyrics are superior as far as I am concerned. Then again, to each his own.

The success or failure of a remake ultimately depends on the legality of remaking a song, the quality of the production, the current era, and the influence of social media on our society. If you were unaware that "In the Center" was a sample from "Fix It Up," we fulfilled our duty. We have to thank Kenny Phillips of WACK for highlighting things we take for granted. There are numerous remakes available, and we encourage you to watch today's program on the WACK Radio site on YouTube.
