Runaway by Mical Teja | Soca 2024

Originally posted on the blog Sokah2Soca (www.sokah2soca.com). We bring you only the best new music, while Islandvbye Radio rocks it live on the air!!

"Lorraine doh cry ah leaving; Ah cyah miss dis jammin'" are two lines from the chorus to one of the most popular songs for Carnival in Trinidad. It was sung by Calypsonian Explainer back in 1982. That was over 40 years ago, and today we are getting ready to "Runaway" from the cold again, but this time with Mical Teja telling the story.

Runaway by Mical Teja is a catchy and upbeat song that showcases the artist's versatility and talent. The song was written by Mical Teja and Tano, and they also produced the track along with Mical Teja. The song features smooth guitar and bass lines by Kyle Peters and harmonious background vocals by Jerry-Lee David and Luna. The song is mixed and mastered by Kevin 'Vexmony' Beharry, who gives it a polished and professional sound.

The song tells the story of a man who wants to escape with his lover from the cold and hectic city life and find a warm and peaceful place where they can be free and happy. The lyrics are simple but effective, conveying the emotions and desires of the protagonist. The chorus is catchy and memorable, with the repeated line "I need a little runaway" expressing the main theme of the song.

The song is a fusion of soca and pop, with influences from Caribbean and Latin music. The song has a lively and energetic vibe, with a fast tempo and a danceable rhythm. The song is suitable for parties, clubs, and festivals, as well as for casual listening. The song showcases Mical Teja's vocal range and style, as he sings with passion and flair. The song also demonstrates his skills as a songwriter and producer, as he creates a unique and original sound that stands out from the crowd.

Runaway by Mical Teja is a song that will make you want to dance, sing, and escape with your loved one. It is a song that celebrates love, freedom, and happiness. It is a song that you will want to listen to over and over again.

Carnival 2024 in Trinidad just got a whole lot hotter with the arrival of "Dance Nice," the infectious new collaboration between Soca veterans Bunji Garlin and producer Romie Rome. Buckle up, folks, because this track is pure fire! It brings vibrant energy and good vibes that'll have you moving even before the rum kicks in.

"Dance Nice," which was produced by Romie Rome and 47 Productions, has an infectious soca beat that makes it hard to ignore. The rhythm section lays down a foundation of snappy snares and deep bass, leaving plenty of room for Romie's signature synth work to dance around. Kyle Peters' additional guitars add a touch of warmth and texture, rounding out the sonic palette beautifully.

But the real magic lies in the vocals delivered by Bunji. Bunji, the seasoned Ragga Soca King, commands the track with his gravelly, playful delivery, his verses oozing confidence and joy.

Lyrically, "Dance Nice" keeps things simple and fun. Ian Alvarez's writing focuses on the pure joy of carnival, celebrating the release and unity that come with dancing your heart out to this cross-genre production.

Dance Nice could become an instant party classic that is guaranteed to ignite parties during Carnival 2024 and beyond. Get ready to "Dance Nice" all night long!

YouTube Music Video Notes:
Good vibrations are coming to Trinidad Carnival 2024 and will extend across the Caribbean region now, after being sent out into the ether by DJ/Producer Romie Rome and Studio 47 Productions.

"With all the bad vibes happening across the world and even here in sweet T&T," Romie explained, "we wanted to send out a frequency that would only attract, share, and multiple good vibes and good energy to the festival and beyond. Harnessing the young language of the region, which exists in Soca and Dancehall, we created the Send Out Riddim to combine the positive energy found in both genres, effectively unite both worlds, and celebrate the region in the process!"

Dutty Flex by Kes the Band | Soca 2024

Originally posted on the blog Sokah2Soca (www.sokah2soca.com). We bring you only the best new music, while Islandvbye Radio rocks it live on the air!!

When Kes drops a new track, you know it's going to be fire. And "Dutty Flex" is no exception. It's not just a song; it's a testament to why Kes the Band and Kees have held the undisputed crown of Soca kings for the past decade.

From the get-go, the bassline hooks you like a seasoned fisherman. Kees' vocals, dripping with Trinidadian swagger and playful charm, weave seamlessly through the infectious rhythm. This isn't your average Soca tune; it's a full-blown celebration of self-expression, owning your vibe, and painting the dance floor with your own brand of Dutty Flex.

Full Blown Entertainment deserves serious props for the lyrics. They're catchy, witty, and packed with Trinbagonian flavor. Full Blown Entertainment's writing skills paint a picture of the dance floor that one can relate to from your past carnival experiences. You can practically smell the sweat, feel the sequins glisten, and witness the chaotic beauty of a carnival romance unfold as Kees paints the scene with his words.

N.M.G. Music takes the crown when it comes to production. The beat is a hurricane of Soca soul, with driving percussion and a bassline that burrows deep into your bones. Sharp horn blasts and playful synth flourishes add layers of sonic spice, creating a soundscape that practically begs you to move. This ain't background music; it's the soundtrack to a full-blown Dutty Flex takeover.

But what truly elevates "Dutty Flex" to masterpiece status is Kes himself. He's not just singing; he's embodying the song, living and breathing its Dutty Flex spirit. His confidence is infectious, his playful delivery makes you want to cut loose, and his sheer joy in performing radiates through every note.

Here's why "Dutty Flex" will reign supreme:
  • A groove that owns your soul: The beat is relentless, hypnotic, and impossible to resist.
  • Kees at his finest: Playful, confident, and utterly captivating, he pours his heart and soul into every line.
  • Lyrics that bite and bounce: Witty, Trinidadian slang, and enough double entendre to keep you coming back for more.
  • Production that sets the dance floor ablaze: N.M.G Music crafts a sonic hurricane that pushes the boundaries of Soca.
Verdict: "Dutty Flex" isn't just a song; it's a movement. It's a celebration of individuality, the freedom to express yourself however you damn well please, and the infectious joy of letting loose on the dance floor. And who better to lead this movement than the undisputed king of Soca himself, Kes the Band?

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars (plus a bonus crown for sheer Soca mastery)

So there you have it. "Dutty Flex" is not just a song; it's a testament to Kes' reign as the Soca King and a guaranteed floor-filler for any party. Crank it up, Dutty Flex your way, and let Kes paint the town red (or should I say green, yellow, and black?) with this Soca masterpiece.

Rosie by Destra & Yung Bredda | Soca 2024

Originally posted on the blog Sokah2Soca (www.sokah2soca.com). We bring you only the best new music, while Islandvbye Radio rocks it live on the air!!

Let's jump right into the heart of Carnival with "Rosie," the explosive collaboration between Soca royalty Destra and the rising star Yung Bredda. This track, destined to dominate Trinidad and Tobago's 2024 festivities, is a potent blend of classic Soca energy and trendy Zess vibes, leaving you with no choice but to move your body.

From the first horn blast, "Rosie" punches you with a vibrant rhythm that Keshav and Tendaji expertly craft. The production is a masterclass in Soca's sonic tapestry, seamlessly weaving brassy melodies, pulsating basslines, and crisp snares. Destra's iconic voice effortlessly rides the groove, with her playful delivery and infectious charm radiating through the speakers. Yung Bredda adds a fresh swagger with his smooth verses, proving his versatility and cementing his place as the "King of Steam."

But "Rosie" is more than just a dancefloor scorcher. The lyrics, penned by the formidable team of Tendaji, Keshav, Destra, and Yung Bredda, are surprisingly layered. Under the surface of carnival revelry lies a playful story of attraction and pursuit. It's a flirty dialogue that unfolds over the pulsating rhythm, adding a touch of narrative intrigue to the energetic beats.

"Rosie" doesn't shy away from acknowledging its modern influences. Subtle hints of Zess, a subgenre of Soca known for its electronic elements and hip-hop-inspired beats, peek through the traditional Soca foundation. This fusion keeps the track fresh and relevant, appealing to both seasoned Soca enthusiasts and younger audiences.

Overall, "Rosie" is a triumphant win for Destra and Yung Bredda. It's a song that captures the essence of Carnival—vibrant, energetic, and full of playful spirit. The production is phenomenal, the lyrics are catchy, and the chemistry between the artists is undeniable. "Rosie" is sure to be a staple on Soca playlists long after the Carnival drums fade, solidifying its place as a future classic.

From YouTube Music Post:
The Queen of Bacchanal & the King of Steam team up to bring you the duet of 2024 that we never knew we needed, but wanted so badly. ‘Rosie’ is a fresh & surprising blend of big-brass Carnival sound & a heaping dose of Zess. Yung Bredda continues to show his versatility, rising fast as a star of Caribbean music on the World stage. Destra continues to cross generations by displaying her versatility (not only as a vocalist par excellence) but also as prolific in Zess, proving yet again that she continues to be one of the freshest forces in driving Soca forward and upward.
