Golden Hands is a dynamic and vibrant Steelband orchestra that makes a positive impact on young people's lives in Trinidad and Tobago. The band is a source of pride for the community, and it is a significant part of the country's cultural heritage.

Today we present the Golden Hands Steel Orchestra playing Beyonce's "Love on Top." The song was originally released in 2011. Vanessa Headley-Brewster's song selection is excellent. We love the arrangement and wish the band continued success.

The Golden Hands Steel Orchestra is a talented and dedicated group of young musicians who make a positive impact on the world through their music. The band is a source of pride for Trinidad and Tobago, and it is a vital part of the country's cultural heritage. The people of San Fernando are lucky to have such talented and forward-thinking young people in their midst. Keep them in mind as the competition progresses. Well done, Golden Hands!

Love on Top by Beyonce
Today, while listening to Mr. Desmond and Kenny Phillips on Wack Radio, a caller asked about a Black Stalin tribute melody recently played on the station. Mr. Desmond mentioned that the melody was done by Nicholas Brancker; he meant The Nicholas Brancker Band! I did my due diligence and located the tribute video. This is the feature of the post, a tribute to the late Dr. Leroy Caliste, who died on the 24th of July. September 1941 – sunset on the 28th. December 2022.

The Black Stalin Tribute by The Nicholas Brancker Band (from Barbados) is a stunning tribute to the legendary Trinidadian calypsonian, Black Stalin. This presentation is a masterpiece of Caribbean music, featuring powerful vocals, intricate instrumentals, and soulful rhythms by the Nicholas Brancker Band. These rhythms transport listeners to the heart of Trinidad's vibrant musical culture from the late Black Stalin. Each track selected for this presentation is expertly crafted. It showcases the incredible talent of the Nicholas Brancker Band and their deep appreciation for Black Stalin's music.

The Black Stalin Tribute is a must-listen for anyone who loves Caribbean music or is interested in Trinidad and Tobago's rich musical traditions. It is a fitting tribute to one of the greatest calypsonians of all time and a testament to his enduring power. Highly recommended.

I have to admit that the singer, Adrian, was excellent and sounded very much like the late maestro, Black Stalin. This feature is pure excellence and one of the finest Black Stalin tributes I have seen online. Kudos to The Nicholas Brancker Band.

Notes from Nicholas Brancker:
This was the final rehearsal before our first performance after Black Stalin's passing. We had just finished a workshop at UWI for students and decided to document and share this medley with you. This is a tribute to a humble, joyful and committed Caribbean son. Live on, Brother!

Moun Sou Moun Konpa Mix by Jeanius

We are a Caribbean community with diverse cultural and musical interests. Although Soca, Calypso, and Steelband music predominate in Caribbean carnival culture, the area has more to offer. Dancehall, Zouk, and various subgenres of music can be heard from island to island. Today we feature Haitian Kompa (Konpa) music. Our goal is to explore our musical interests and share a commonality that links our beloved Caribbean basin.

Kompa (also spelled Konpa) is a popular Haitian music genre that originated in the mid-20th century. It is a modern form of méringue, traditional Haitian dance music dating back to the 19th century. Kompa music lyrics can be about a variety of topics, including love, relationships, social issues, and politics. The lyrics are typically sung in Haitian Creole. The music features upbeat rhythm, and catchy melodies. Usually, a band performs it, employing instruments like drums, bass, guitars, saxophones, trumpets, and trombones.

Kompa music has evolved over the years, and there are now several subgenres. Some of the most popular subgenres include konpa direct, which is characterized by its fast tempo and driving beat; cadence rampa, which is a slower, more mellow style of Kompa; and Konpa Rasin, which is a more traditional style of Kompa that draws on Haitian folk music.

Kompa music is a vibrant and dynamic genre that plays a significant role in Haitian culture. It is a popular form of entertainment that brings people together and celebrates Haitian culture. If you are interested in learning more about Haitian Konpa music, there are several resources available online. However, we recommend checking back regularly for more Kompa (Konpa) mixes. Starting today, along with Islandvybe Radio DJs, we delve into Haitian music culture. Welcome aboard and take this first journey with our featured mix-master, DJ Jeanius. Enjoy the fabulous work of our mix-master; it is time to 'tun-up' our musical love vibrations. Remember to show the DJ some love by leaving a comment on his SoundCloud page and on this blog.

About this DJ:
Jeanius, our Mix-Master for this session, has a mystical formula, call it his musical mantra that he adheres to for his craft: "When music hits, you feel no pain"!

Born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, and raised in Brooklyn, NY, music has always been at the forefront of my existence. My mother always had music playing in the house; I started playing the drums at age 4. Music was destined to be a lifelong drug. Forty-two years later, after twenty plus years as a DJ/selector, nothing has changed. All genres, all events, tons of cities, and a few countries later, and I love it just the same. Despite the fact that people will let you down, the music will never! Take a journey with me; I'm Jeanius, and the pleasure is mine.
