Here is the latest chart from COTT for the week ending May 11th -17th, 2023. The top songs are still number s 1 and 2 by Come Home by Nailah Blackman and Skinny Fabulous have edged up to the number three spot pushing Like Yuself by Machel and Patrice Roberts into fourth place. Entering the chart at number 10 is Hall of Fame by Mical Teja, this song is definitely deserving of since it was very popular for carnival 2023. Take a look and see if you song made the chart and tell up what you think COTT can do to improve the charting process.

For those new to this chart, here is a little reminder from previous chart posts:
Here is a little housekeeping regarding COTT and the current playlist. COTT is a non-profit organization that represents composers, authors, and publishers of musical works in Trinidad and Tobago. The organization collects and distributes royalties to its members for the public performance and broadcast of their works, including on radio stations.

The COTT Radio Play chart is based on data provided by a sample of Trinidad and Tobago radio stations that report their weekly airplay to COTT. The chart reflects the total number of plays each song received during the week. A weighted average of the data is then used to adjust for the differences in the number of radio stations and audiences among them.

COTT:
"Our chart is informed by data obtained from VERICAST - the software used by COTT to capture this and other types of musical data".

Siwo, by Michael Robinson, is a smooth groove Soca song released as part of the Sa Ka Fèt Riddim for St. Lucia's Carnival 202. The beginning of this song reminds me of Voice out of Trinidad. St. Lucia's 2023 Carnival just got sweeter with this music release from Michael Robinson. If you are a fan of the smooth side of Soca then this is the groove for Lucian Carnival 2023.

Sa Ka Fèt (creole patois for "what's going on") seems appropriate for this album release. If you are vibing to this track, then you definitely know what's going on! This riddim is produced by Vibez Productionz. We like how smooth the production on this music release is, as well as the smooth side of Soca vocalized by Michael Robinson.

"Siwo" is a great example of Soca music. It is upbeat, catchy, and it is sure to get you moving. If you are a fan of Soca music, then you will definitely want to check out "Siwo" by Michael Robinson.  This song is ideal for a slow whine with someone special to you or if you find yourself 'thieving ah whine'.

Hello by Earl Brooks | Steelpan

Calypso, Steelband and Soca are featured here on Soka2Soca regularly. However, so as not to run into trouble with steelpan fans, we don't want to appear as fair-weather fans posting pan-music only when carnivals come calling. For that reason, we decided to post a track with a steelpan as the headliner. Today we present the song "Hello" by Earl Brooks from the album "Something Nice".

In one stroke we dropped the mic! We deliver something nice (literally) while pointing you to Earl Brooks awesome album. The album is available for purchase on Amazon Music in CD or MP3 formats. Hello is a classic song but when done on the steelpan it takes on another dimension when performed on the steelpan, an instrument that adds an authentic Caribbean flavor to the track.

There is something special about the steelpan (the national instrument of Trinidad & Tobago) and it is the sweet sound of the instrument that adds flavor to a song that is considered a classic. The steelpan's bright and lively tones add joyful energy to the song making this version one for your music collection. Earl Brooks is a master of the steelpan, and the fusion of steelpan and traditional instruments lights up the arrangement. We think you will love this track; we are pleased to present it to you today.

Hello Soca fans out there, have you ever wondered how Soca songs are created? Our post today is designed to help you gain a better understanding of how the creative process works; we hope you find it helpful.

There was a time, not so long ago, when music was released for the carnival period, but today songs are released throughout the year! Song writers and music composers churn out lyrics and melodies daily. Our post today provides a basic view of Soca song construction. We have also added a simple Soca song example to accompany along with the post.

Hey, by the way, feel free to put music to the lyrics and send the track to us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. for posting. Take it as a challenge from Sokah2Soca. If and when that is accomplished, people will have a better understanding of the information posted below.

I know that writing a song can be a daunting task, but I hope this post provides some helpful tips and advice.

Here are a few things to keep in mind when writing a Soca song:

Keep it catchy! Soca songs are all about the beat and the melody, so make sure your song is something people will want to dance to.

Use positive lyrics! Soca music is all about having fun and celebrating life, so make sure your lyrics reflect that.

Be creative! Soca music is a very diverse genre, so experiment with different sounds and styles. A Soca song is typically constructed into four main parts:

Verse

The verse is where the story of the song is told. It is usually the longest part of the song, and it is where the main lyrics are sung.

Chorus

The chorus is the most memorable part of the song. It is usually short and catchy, and it is often repeated throughout the song.

Bridge

The bridge is a short section that is usually used to change the mood of the song. It can be used to add a new melody, introduce a new topic, or simply to break up the monotony of the song.

Outro

The outro is the final section of the song. It is usually shorter than the Hello Soca fans out there, have you ever wondered about who creates what and how Soca songs are created? Today, we have a post that should help you understand how the creative process works.

Here is an example of a Soca song (new and unreleased):

Title: Party Time

Verse 1:
It's party time, so let's get down
We're gonna dance all night long
So put on your dancing shoes
And let's get this party started

Chorus:
Party time, party time
It's time to let loose and have some fun
So let's dance, let's sing, let's shout
And let's make this night unforgettable

Verse 2:
We're gonna drink, we're gonna eat
We're gonna laugh, we're gonna cry
We're gonna make memories that will last a lifetime
So come on, let's party!

Chorus:
Party time, party time
It's time to let loose and have some fun
So let's dance, let's sing, let's shout
And let's make this night unforgettable.

Bridge:
This is our time to shine
So let's make the most of it
Let's dance until our feet hurt
And let's sing until our throats are sore

Chorus:
Party time, party time
It's time to let loose and have some fun
So let's dance, let's sing, let's shout
And let's make this night unforgettable

Outro
It's party time
It's party time
