We seek out and post as much as we can about artists from Trinidad and Tobago and the Caribbean basin. We are always excited to post original music from talented upcoming singers. Today we discovered an artist known as "Lexxi" and decided to share his talent with our followers. He is talented and should make sweet music for years to come.

Alex "Lexxi" Brown is a talented and passionate musician known for his captivating voice and unique style. Born with a natural inclination towards music, he began his musical journey at a young age. He has been a COTT member since 2016. He is known for his catchy tunes and energetic performances. Lexxi first came to prominence in 2019 with his hit song "Jabba," which became a viral sensation. The song's success led to Lexxi signing a record deal with Millbeatz Music Records.

The release of Lexxi's highly anticipated debut EP, "Rise and Fall," in 2021 established him as an artist to watch in the music industry. Since then, Lexxi has released several other successful singles, including "Rise and Fall," "To the Ground," and "Party Tonight." He has also performed at major music festivals in Trinidad and Tobago, as well as in the United States and Canada.

Did you see the claim by Charlie's Records NYC that Angostura used the opening line from deceased Calypsonian Explainer's (Winston Henry) song Lorraine without permission? Rawlston Charles owner of Charlie's Records alleges that Angostura did not get permission to use the opening line of Lorraine, "Taxi, Taxi. Airport Kennedy" for their advertising campaign. It has become a matter of contention, who will emerge victorious is yet to be determined.

Rawlston Charles is claiming copyright infringement and wants to be compensated now that the brand has gained thousands of views and perceived improved sales because of the advertising campaign and use of the copyrighted material.

Angostura has denied culpability and COTT (Copyright Organization of Trinidad and Tobago) is dragging its feet on the matter. The outcome is uncertain for now and could lead to continued "kankalang" until the grownups sit down and resolve the copyright issue. We love to complain about the law and lawyers, but Angostura should do the right thing and pay for use of the copyrighted material if they knowingly used the material to their benefit and did not compensate the owners of the lyrics.

Here is what we found regarding the use of copyrighted material even lines in a song

Q: What are the legal ramifications of reproducing song lyrics in a manuscript? If permission from each copyright holder is necessary, what’s the best way to secure these permissions? Also, can I use a song title as the title of my book? — June Youngblood

A: Song lyrics are copyrighted, which means you need permission to use them. According to our legal expert Amy Cook, there isn’t any specific law about how much you can take under fair use, but it’s common for the music industry to say you need permission for even one line of a song.

Soca music has so many sides. Power Soca, Groove Soca and a bunch of sub-genres for your listening pleasure. Today we feature the latest song from the artist Hey Choppi. After listening to this song, we added a Sokah2Soca sub-genre to the Groove Soca category. Wait for it, "Fall in Love Soca"! Just listen to the song and tell us if Choppi strikes any love chords that make you want to... ooh la la!

About the Artist:
Born and raised in the small town of Arima, Trinidad and Tobago, Sean Padmore aka “Hey Choppi” is a multi-talented artist, with a prolific work ethic. His music is as much a blend of genres as his country is a blend of cultures, fusing hip-hop, pop, reggae and Soca. It's a sound that the international market can’t get enough of, illustrated by artists like Koffee & Burna Boy.

In 2018, he stepped out as a solo artist under his own independent production label “Alienation Muzik” working alongside top producers like 1stKlase and Precision Productions. Choppi is building his solo career from a strategized blueprint on non-stop dedication.

This drive has attracted opportunities to work with big names such as Major Lazer, Rock City, Aaron Fresh, Eva Shaw, Romeo Miller, and Showtek to name a few. In March 2018, Choppi released his first single “Anchor”, a rhythmic blend of pop and Soca sampling Machel Montano’s "Fast-Wine". His latest single “Captain” became one of the top hits of the 2020 Trinidad Carnival season. That song is just the tip of the iceberg for what’s to come.

The twin island republic of Trinidad and Tobago is a land of talented people. Our musical ambassadors continue to give us so much that sometimes I think we are not deserving of the bounty we have been given. Our culture leads the way and is emulated in the Caribbean and North America. Yes, we have talent to spare!

Talking about talent, how about doing something different today? What do you think of featuring Olatunji's Engine Room on the violin and steelpan? Yes, we have it, and today you can enjoy it with your peers. Share the post; this is just musical niceness!
