This was just musical niceness, if we say so ourselves. One does not have to wait for the adults to bring the sweetness. The youth are here, and the national instruments are in good hands. The song played, "How ah Livin'" by Farmer Nappy, was delivered with class and loads of excitement.
We really don't have to, nor should we say much since the rendition did all the talking today. Observe the young man who exits the band and contributes a captivating solo that seamlessly integrates into the composition. The marriage of cultures, as only Trinidad and Tobago can deliver. Enjoy.

This is an unusual song. They used a fast-paced Soca beat to label this a Power Soca song, but the vocals are smooth and clean. It is like a futuristic version of Power Soca, just not what "Power" is all about. This song has no rough edges to it, which is what really makes Power Soca relevant. The pace is simply too fast for any extended period of time.
Now while fans are going goo goo ga ga over this song, I will stand on the side of the road and watch masqueraders try to keep up with London Future's relationship with our hearts and the energy and adrenaline needed to keep up with this song for any period of time.
Kes' popularity, along with London Future's notoriety, has already propelled the YouTube views over 40K in two days. If you listen to this song a few times and you are a Kes fan, you will be willing to squash any presumed negative comments about the song. So let me say this: The music bpm is high, and Kes sings beautifully; however, this does not render it the Power Soca badjohn that they desire. The lyrics by Kes are excellent, and the singing style is superb and perfectly suited for a Groove Soca song, not this fast-paced music.
After all is said and done, and after all the Kes hype, this song should be easily handled by the likes of a MM "Fling It" that has the pace needed to keep up with a true 'Power Soca' track.
So Kes fans, get excited, but after 20 minutes on the road, it will literally be "pressure" to keep up with this song. In the interim, you can thank us for recommending "Fling It Up" to party and have a wonderful time on the road for Carnival 2025.

Justice by Squeezy Rankin: A Powerful Social Commentary

With Calypso, all stories are told! This song, long overdue, delivers a powerful message. "Justice, co-written by Squeezy Rankin and Angelo Pantin, delves deeply into a heartbreaking social commentary. This calypso song addresses the painful dichotomy between a mother's unwavering love and her son's disregard for life, his own and others'. How does one square this circle ?
This complicated relationship reflects broader societal issues, highlighting the consequences of a lack of empathy and respect for humanity. With its poignant lyrics and soulful production by Q-Ban Productions, “Justice” carries a message that resonates profoundly, emphasizing that this conversation is long overdue.
It's a powerful reminder of the urgent need for compassion and justice in our communities. Golden Hands Steel Orchestra & T&TEC New East Side Dimension Tie for First Place: PTSCBF2025

Finals night came, and 14 of the best small, conventional Steelbands competed for Pan Trinbago's Panorama Champions for Carnival 2025. There was a 'rain delay' that created difficulties for pan pushers getting the bands on stage on time because of muddy conditions. Then, as the sweet sounds of Steelband music filled the air, the rain began to recede. All fourteen exceptional Steebands with eye-popping musical arrangements ignited the stage.
From the start, the competition brought forth excellent music, with each performance intensifying the tension with each band's fans believing that they could win it all. Not even the rain that fell could have displaced the joy felt at Skinner Park tonight. Everyone had a chance to win it all, but in the end, the judges decisions, though not always popular, were final.
Those who emerged victorious celebrated with joyous abandon, while the losers, as is usually the case, cried, "They thief, they thief; we want to see the score sheet" (credit Maestro's song). The surprise came when the announcer said there was a tie for first place, and the top three bands were the last to be announced, with two of the three bands playing "Mih Lover!" When Southern Stars were announced as the second-place band, the crowd erupted with applause as South's own Vanessa Headley-Brewster emerged as the winner along with T&TEC New East Side Dimension in the tie for first place.
Now all we can do is reminisce, but better yet, let the music play on! Even so, we still struggle to fully capture the captivating sound of the Steelband during live performances. We do have recordings of tonight's performances to savor and celebrate now that the final performances are over. WeCapture is a stellar example; we have the top three performances posted below. Go ahead and relive last night's top three performances.
The second stage of Pan is currently underway. The Single Pan Bands and Small Conventional Bands finals have now concluded, and the focus now shifts to the Medium and Large Conventional Bands finals. As we look back, let's look for the beauty of these acoustic instruments; the music was amazing, the arrangers were phenomenal, and the playing was fantastic.
To conclude, we applaud all those involved in the production of last night's performances. We also must applaud WACK Visual Radio 90.1FM for live streaming the event with Pan Trinbago at a reasonable cost. The live streaming PPV page has some issues to work out, but in the end, these small hindrances did not take away from the fact that we were able to virtually 'be there' to enjoy our wonderful musical instruments. Now on to the next, and yes, let the music play on!
