"A lion doesn’t lose sleep over the opinion of sheep." As I speak my truth here for this post, I expect to be beaten like a rusty old drum on J'ouvert morning. In a world where conformity often trumps individuality, it's essential to embrace one's voice, regardless of the criticism that may follow. I take pride in expressing my thoughts here. So here goes...

"Trust in It," a vibrant masterpiece by the talented Lyrical, is my favorite calypso for Carnival 2025 in Trinidad. But wait, I am not only saying best calypso but best song released for Carnival 2025! Kitwana Israel, Jason Gilbert, and Devon Martin skillfully wrote this captivating tune, and  Skorch Bun It, along with AdvoKit Productions, brought it to life. The song's infectious rhythm and uplifting lyrics resonate with the spirit of celebration that defines Carnival. As the festivities approach, I can't help but anticipate the electrifying performances that will showcase this anthem of joy and unity.

The song's enchanting guitar strums form the heart of its musical arrangement, underscoring Lyrical's profound affection for Soca music. Remarkably, Lyrical masterfully blends the rhythm and soul of Calypso to pay homage to Soca, creating a unique and harmonious fusion. The essence of this composition is relaxation and music enjoyment. It is a song to chip on the road with friends, and, most significantly, it embodies a positive and uplifting sentiment.

What truly stands out about "Trust in It" is the seamless integration of excellent lyrical content, mesmerizing music, and Lyrical's pleasing and heartfelt vocals. Every note and every word is a testament to his love for the genre, making this song not just a Calypso hit but a soulful celebration of Soca's infectious energy.

I am absolutely enchanted by this song and its ability to convey such a powerful message through its exquisite composition and performance. The way Lyrical captures the essence of the Caribbean spirit is truly remarkable, inviting listeners to immerse themselves in the vibrant rhythms and uplifting melodies. Each listen unveils new layers of emotion, reinforcing why "Trust in It" stands out as a defining piece in contemporary Caribbean music.

The chant "Kaiso, Kaiso!" reverberates throughout the Calypso tent, urging an encore when a performance accomplishes the golden mark of excellence—the audience truly appreciates the total package, and that includes the message, the delivery, and the connection the artist has with the audience. Today, we salute a beautifully crafted song that has captured our hearts and "minds"—"Tears" by Kerice Pascall, written by Kurt Allen and produced by the legendary Kenny Phillips of KMP Music Lab. Pleasing Calypso aficionados is not an effortless task in Trinidad and Tobago, but when it does happen, the applause comes flowing easily, and the chant of Kaiso, Kaiso accompanies the praise. "Tears" checks all the boxes and will receive deserving encores at the Calypso tent for Carnival 2025.

"Tears" is more than just a song; it delivers a powerful message. It’s a bold commentary on the current state of our society and the numerous ills that stagnate growth in all its forms. With poignant lyrics and emotive delivery, Pascall highlights the "systemic inequalities, corruption, and societal neglect that plague our nation."

In "Tears," the singer intricately critiques the nation and its leadership, embodying the role of a true Calypsonian who channels the voice of the people. Kerice Pascall does the work for the people with an unflinching gaze and a powerful narrative that resonates deeply with anyone who listens. Kurt Allen is a brilliant Calypso songwriter; his ability to bring such significant issues to the forefront through poetic and compelling lyrics showcases his brilliance as a songwriter—just amazing!

The brilliance of Kenny Phillips shines through the production, enhancing the raw emotion and impactful message of the song. "Tears" is a testament to the power of Calypso music, reminding us of its roots in social and political commentary while delivering a soul-stirring performance that demands reflection and action.

Kerice Pascall, Kurt Allen, and Kenny Phillips have delivered a contemplative calypso—a thought-provoking song for the people to reflect upon and strive for a better tomorrow. As we listen, let’s raise our voices in the chant that honors greatness: Kaiso, Kaiso!

In a magical twist for Trinidad Carnival 2025, Sharlan Bailey, known as the "Dread Wizard," has conjured the spirit of his legendary father, The Mighty Shadow, to bring us the electrifying new track, "Walk and Wiggle." This song, written and produced by Dread Wizard himself under Dread Wizard Productions, promises to have the passion and love for "Shadow Music" that will have everyone dancing in the streets of Port of Spain for Carnival 2025.

The Mighty Shadow, a musical genius whose influence on calypso and soca music is undeniable, left an indelible mark on the world with his unique sound and powerful lyrics. His son, Sharlan Bailey, has taken up the mantle with a style that both honors and innovates upon his father's legacy. "Walk and Wiggle" is a testament to this, blending the infectious rhythms and soulful melodies that The Mighty Shadow was known for with a fresh, contemporary twist that only Dread Wizard can deliver (and maybe, just maybe, Swappi).

Listening to "Walk and Wiggle," it's clear that Sharlan Bailey has inherited not just his father's musical talent but also his ability to capture the essence of Trinidadian culture and spirit. On the plus side, he does sound like his father. The song's vibrant beats and catchy lyrics evoke the same energy and vibe that The Mighty Shadow brought to his music, making it a fitting tribute to the late icon.

As we gear up for Trinidad Carnival 2025, "Walk and Wiggle" is set to be a standout track that will have revelers moving and grooving from dawn till dusk. Dread Wizard's ability to channel his father's spirit while adding his own unique flair ensures that The Mighty Shadow's legacy lives on, continuing to inspire and uplift through the power of music.

As the beats pulsate through the air, each note becomes a reminder of the joy and unity that music brings. Embrace the rhythm and allow yourself to be swept away in the celebration, where every moment is a chance to connect with others and create lasting memories.

Carnival is in the air, and the new music is but a teaser. So get ready to party and have a "bacchanal time"; get ready to "walk and wiggle" or simply dance through the carnival season, allowing the power of the Dread Wizard and the Mighty Shadow to guide your steps.

We're loving the new song "Right Dey" by Wadicks, written by the talented Rosario Walters and produced by Starboy Johnny and David "Millbeatz" Millien of MillBeatz Entertainment. Recorded by David Sheppard Pro and mixed and mastered by MillBeatz, this track has the right feel and definitely the feel-good vibes for Carnival 2025.

The feel and vibe of "Right Dey" are truly captivating and instantly transport you to a lively party atmosphere. However, we have one major issue—the song's length. At just 2:14, it's noticeably shorter than most tracks, which usually run over 3 minutes.

While this shorter length can be perfect for DJs who like to keep the energy up and transition quickly between songs, it feels a bit lacking for a standalone purchase. A longer version would undoubtedly enhance the carnival vibe and provide listeners with a more immersive experience. Additionally, incorporating more intricate layers of instrumentation and extended solos could enhance the overall experience, allowing the audience to immerse themselves in the vibrant atmosphere the music aims to create. Ultimately, a balance between brevity and depth would cater to both the energetic vibe of DJs and the appreciation of casual listeners.

Tell us, do you believe we have a valid point, or do you believe it is futile to continue this discussion? Do you find the length acceptable, even if you believe an extended version could elevate this song's profile and secure its place in radio rotation? Tell us what you think.
